About

Laura Meriluoto is a Helsinki-based designer-artist currently working as a creative director and freelance designer. She holds a Master’s degree in arts from Aalto University School of Arts, Design, and Architecture where she studied in the program of Contemporary Design. Her expertise lies in the vast knowledge of different materials and production methods and in translating emotions through sensorial experiences. Laura has an endless curiosity regarding the aspects that affect people's desire to hold on to physical objects and how sustainability could be approached and improved from this perspective.

As a designer, she is interested in blending the boundaries between art and functional objects and elongating the lifespan of products through the formation of emotional attachment. Laura aspires to create beings that become cherished lifelong companions to their owners. Companions that do not only have a functional purpose but can also feed the soul through the visual and narrational qualities they provide.

Laura’s works are characterized by sympathetic humane forms, using techniques that lead to irregularities and so-called imperfections, and embracing the natural tendencies of the used material. Her approach allows her to create objects that can be manufactured with small-scale production methods while retaining the uniqueness of an art piece. To Laura, her works are first and foremost companions and messengers through which she discusses topics that are personally important to her.
