Varpu is an adjustable floor lamp that challenges the operating principle of traditional reading lamps that have separate light sources for focal and overall lighting. The lamps functionality is based on its two key elements – a light source and a magnifying lens, which are placed on the ends of the lamp’s two movable branches. By changing the relation of these two, the user can determine whether to create only ambient or also focal lighting. The lamp’s metal body is hinged from all of its joints, which enables several different positionings between the two elements, while arousing the user to play with it.
